Connection principle of contact rivets

2021-06-04
Riveting is to use a metal cylinder or metal tube (rivet) with a slightly smaller diameter than the perforation, passing through the workpiece to be riveted, and knocking or pressing the two ends of the rivet, so that the metal column (tube) is deformed and thickened at the same time. The rivet head (cap) is formed to prevent the workpiece from coming out of the rivet. When the workpiece is separated by the external force, the nail rod and the nail cap bear the shearing force to prevent the workpiece from separating. Hot riveting is used in places with higher connection requirements, such as the riveting of steel beams of iron bridges. The rivets need to be preheated during hot riveting. The red hot rivets are inserted into the riveting holes. After the rivet heads are drilled, the shrinkage stress during the cooling process Will make the connection tighter.
